Alti Wine Exchange

Welcome, Lady Adelaide

Alas! The Quinta Do Vallado Adelaide 2015 is now available!

Though my posts generally focus on a historical event related to the wine I’m writing about, today’s is all about NOW! There’s no time to look back because our latest IBO, an ultra-premium Douro Valley beauty, is very limited, and we expect it to fly.

Oh, but there is history here, in the wine itself. Founded by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira in 1716, the Quinta Do Vallado winery has remained in the family ever since. Generations of experience and tradition in Portugal’s marvelous Douro Valley culminated in this flagship cuvée: Adelaide.

Only made in exceptional vintages, the decision to release a wine with the name and prestige of Adelaide must be a unanimous decision by the three great-great-grandsons that currently manage the winery. Having aged 20 months in new French oak, followed by another four years in bottle, the Adelaide 2015 is the most recent vintage released by Quinta Do Vallado.

And my, oh my is it a beautiful wine…

As renowned wine critic and our Chief Wine Officer, Julien Miquel, so aptly describes, this wine is relaxing and elegant. It has a delicate nose of fresh berries and sweet spices layered with violet. The aromas persist on the palate with amazing concentration and refined silky tannins. It’s showing incredibly well now in 2021, but we suspect this wine has a long life ahead of it, up to 40 years, in fact.

Though the Douro Valley is most famous for its plump Port wines, do not underestimate its ability to make dynamic dry reds. Remember that this was the first region in the world to become demarcated and regulated in 1756. There is a long winemaking history in the Douro of working with a plethora of fascinating native grape varieties.

Adelaide comes from a vineyard with more than 30 indigenous varieties and is a field blend of their best expressions. As is common with predominantly schist soils, we can expect a big wine with structure. It is the know-how and focused winemaking that tames this wine into the elegant lady that she is.

Again, we predict a tremendous life expectancy with Adelaide, assuming proper storage and care is taken. And that’s why Alti Wine Exchange is such a great option for those truly invested in their investment. Our wines have gone straight from the producer to the vaults of Bordeaux City Bond, so you can rest assured that your wine is living the good life, in a safe, temperature and light-controlled environment.

We have been fortunate enough to procure 120 of the 4,200 750ml bottles produced. Now it’s time to get your hands on them before they’re gone!
